Work From Home: Top Overseas Marketing Roles This Week For South Africans | 14th March 2025

In partnership with

Hey again,

This week’s newsletter is packed with my top 3 remote, full-time, and freelance marketing roles that South Africans can apply for to work overseas from home and earn three times more. Plus, I’ve included a standout growth marketing example to keep you sharp.

If you don’t have experience, you don’t have examples. And without examples of your work, it’s tough to land any roles. Here’s your daily reminder: start your OWN project.

The best way to gain experience? CURATE something that interests you. That’s exactly how I got my first high-ticket overseas clients.

I enjoyed finding and understanding unconventional B2B marketing strategies, so I built a B2B marketing gallery in my free time after Uni work with Webflow.

To grow my project, I started experimenting:
💡 Reddit posts & comments – Some flopped, but a few hit 60k+ views
💡 Facebook self-promo – Tested a strategy, and it worked
💡 Newsletter popups – Realized from the people I following that I was missing traffic opportunities by not having an ‘owned’ audience, so I launched a Beehiiv newsletter

So just in a year, I naturally picked up new skills in my free time:
✅ Webflow – Learned how to build a site on Webflow
✅ SEO – Experimented with ways to drive organic traffic (which I wasn’t great at)
✅ Social media self-promo – Tested different ways to get attention
✅ Newsletters – Started writing and growing an audience

Soon, I was getting 30+ subscribers per day, with more traffic flowing back to my site.

But beyond the skills, this naturally put me around the right people—following top marketers on Twitter, YouTube, Reddit, newsletters, and blogs. I was constantly surrounded by marketing geniuses, learning from them daily just by being in the right spaces.

Over time, I realized I wasn’t a fan of SEO and websites—but I loved writing and growing newsletters. By experimenting, I figured out what I actually wanted to do.

Then came the first job application. But here’s the difference—I didn’t just send a generic cover letter.

I spent 30+ minutes crafting a highly personalized application, breaking down exactly what I had done. I included my project’s stats, who I followed, what tools I used for content research and how my work aligned perfectly with their audience. Since I had been surrounding myself with this niche daily, I could create something 10x better than the 5-10 other applicants who just submitted basic applications.

It worked. I landed my first newsletter role on Upwork for $18/hr (~R35k/month).

That kicked off a year of working with 10+ clients on newsletters—all from home.

This can be replicated for any hyper-specific niche. Love graphic design? Curate the best design examples, follow top designers, start a newsletter about it, and in less than a year, you’ll have an amazing portfolio and a standout cover letter.

The Founding Father Of Content Marketing 🎅

~ Brought to you by The Growth Archive 📥

In the year 1732,

Benjamin Franklin released a historical masterpiece

"Poor Richard's Almanack."

Our pal, Benjamin

This wasn’t just another almanack.

It became one of the oldest examples of a successful content marketing strategy that I can find.

This almanack served as a promotional tool for his printing business.

He curated content through the voice of a fictional character named 'Richard Saunders'

Such as weather, poems, sayings, and astronomical data, just like any other almanack during his time.

However, he did something different

He added unique content such as math exercises, and examples of demographics...

Most importantly, he also added his thoughts with his witty sense of humor.

The goal was to make it “both entertaining and useful” - in his own words

Adding his voice was what set him apart from others.

Take a look at this clever stunt:

Benjamin Franklins Almanackk

Franklin created a narrative involving Richard and a rival, Mr. Titan Leeds.

He hooked his readers in by predicting that a “good friend and fellow student, Mr. Titan Leeds was going to die on October 17, 1733, at 3:29 P.M."

While Mr Leeds himself responded in a later edition that "he would die on October 26th"

Franklin encouraged his readers to purchase the next year’s edition if they supported Richard's prediction.

And to build suspense the next year, Franklin mentioned that he was too sick to find out whether Richard or Leeds was correct.

These cliffhangers worked.

This buzz kept readers eagerly buying new editions to see who would ultimately be correct.

Sales skyrocketed, with over 10,000 copies sold in a year.

His Almanack became the second most popular book of its time, second only to the Bible...

Franklin’s story is a timeless lesson in content marketing.

He didn’t just create generic content and shamelessly plug his business any chance he could get.

He focused on the core of what people look for in content.

‘human touch’

And for 25 years, "Poor Richard's Almanack" was a big deal.

It opened doors for Franklin to work with other businesses.

He printed the paper currency for New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania.

He helped print Bibles

He published Samuel Richardson's 'Pamela', the first novel printed in America

Ultimately becoming one of the biggest influential figures of his time.

See you next week with new remote marketing opportunities.
